Understanding Craft Business Owners
In our 2023 Craft Retailer Research study, four distinct attitudinal segments emerged among respondents. Do you see yourself in one of these personas?
- Community Casey: Believes in the importance of personal relationships, community, and supporting small businesses.
- Confident Chris: Believes their business is excelling in product quality, generating revenue, uniqueness of products, manufacturer relationships, and staying on top of trends.
- Worried Willa: Believes that manufacturers/distributors should provide more support and that selling direct to consumers and working with influencers hurts retailers.
- Online Embracing Ollie: Sells through their ecommerce site and believes direct-to-consumer has little impact on their business model or doesn't apply to them at all.

What They Say
Our clients have seen significant improvements in their businesses after working with us. Here's what some of them have to say:
- "One of the many challenges I've faced the past few months has been a sense of not 'doing the right thing' and it's become so bad it's almost crippling my momentum. In one hour with Nellie, I feel that I have some clear direction; she helped me realize that some of my purchases are not going to be income drivers and gave me some great insight on how to choose more 'evergreen' lines and up-and-coming designers as well. I am so grateful to you, Nellie, and Stitchcraft Marketing in general. I am hopeful about my business and it's success again!" - Marysol Delgado, SoulStitchery.com
- "The book has done quite well and it's fun to see people start knitting projects out of it. It went to its second round of printing in August, and it's being translated into three other languages. I'll take that as an absolute win for the year. Overall, I think we've achieved what I wanted from working with you!" - Ashleigh Wempe, author of Mosaic Knitting
- "Wow, Leanne, this presentation (on 2023 Retailer Research) was the most educational talk I've been to in over 2 years. I learned so much from you today!" - Tanja Baucken, LivingDreamsFiberAndYarn.com
- "Thank you for the great analysis that your team provided. I saw my company deeply from the inside and we are ready to get moving!" - Carol Veillon, Founder, Quilt Mania Magazine
Our Story
In 2009, Leanne Pressly was an ad sales manager at Interweave Press consulting clients on print advertising when she realized they needed so much more. She launched The Wool Wide Web as a marketing agency with services specific to knitting companies and grew the company to 30+ retainer clients in just 3 years. The newly rebranded Stitchcraft Marketing emerged in 2013 to expand into the fabric sector and provide social media marketing help for more craft businesses in the soft craft industries. Recently, our service offerings expanded once more to include SEO and website audits, data analytics, mastermind groups, programmatic advertising, and services for all crafts including knitting, crochet, yarn, quilting, fabric, embroidery, needlework, paper crafts, jewelry-making, ceramic, and paint companies in both the wholesale and retail space.
