Our founder, Drew Vaughn, has a rather unusual background. Growing up on a chicken and turkey farm in rural Illinois, he almost lost his face to a rooster when he was a kid. Who knew that would be the catalyst for a successful legal career? After being hospitalized, Drew went on to become a lawyer, professor, and entrepreneur. He handled divorce cases for celebrities and multi-millionaires, became a Professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and even co-authored a book on divorce law. His impressive credentials don't end there - he was honored by SuperLawyers, Leading Lawyers, and Crain's Business, and was named one of the Top 10 Attorneys in Illinois.

From Lawyer to Marketer

So, how did Drew transition from being a successful lawyer to a marketing guru? Simple - he got an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from Notre Dame, and later completed his certification in Digital Marketing Analytics at MIT. Drew has also won Online Legal Ad of the Year in 2017 for Outstanding Achievement in Internet Advertising. With his background in law and marketing, he's in a unique position to understand what marketing approaches law firms need.

A New Approach to Legal Marketing

When Drew owned his own law firm, he hired marketing companies that were great at getting clients to call. However, those clients couldn't afford to hire him. That's when he realized that lawyers needed a different type of marketing. He started creating his own marketing and advertising for his law firm, but initially, it didn't work. Extensive trial and error ensued, coupled with certifications in Social Media Marketing, Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Google Ads, and Search Engine Optimization. After all that effort, Drew started getting good at marketing his own firm. Really good. In fact, his ads made him $2,700 for every $1 he spent on advertising.

The Birth of Deviant Marketing

The success of his marketing efforts led to him doubling the revenue of his firm every year for four straight years. After selling his firm, he devoted himself to helping other lawyers and law firms achieve similar success through Deviant Marketing.
